Shape Loom Weaving
You can apply the following steps to warp any of The Unusual Pear Shape Looms.
Shape Loom Warping
Shape Loom Weaving
Warping for re-use
Cut your length of warp thread. Start off with roughly 2 meters of thread, we can always add more thread when we run out.
Take some of the twist out of the thread by pinching one end between your thumb and forefinger and sliding the thread through pinched fingers in your other hand. Repeat 3-4 times.
Thread the warp end through the eye of the metal needle and leave a 10cm tail.
Step 1:Bring your thread up through the first hole on the bottom left of the loom, over into the corresponding hole on the right side and pull the slack though, leaving a 5cm tail
Step 2:Bring your needle up through the second hole on the bottom left and over into the corresponding hole on the right side.
It should look like straight warps on the front side and angled warps on the back side.
Step 3:Don’t knot the thread to secure it, instead, wrap it around the loom 3-4 times and secure with one over hand knot (which will be easy to loosen)
Keep a firm tension with your warp thread and repeat Steps 1-2 until you run out of thread.
Before you add your new piece of warp thread, check your tension by pressing the loom flat on a table and pulling up each of the threads from where you began, along to where you are finishing – don’t let the slack go before pulling the next thread up. This slides all the loose tension to the end of your working thread and firms the tension through the warps.
Step 4:When you run out of thread, bring the end to the back of the loom and flip the loom to the back side. Cut another length of warp thread, take the twist out and tie the new thread onto the end thread with a square or granny knot. Thread the needle through the new warp length and repeat step 1-2 until you reach the end of the loomand have no holes left to warp.
Step 5: Don’t knot the thread to secure it, instead, wrap it around the loom 3-4 times and secure with one over hand knot (which will be easy to loosen)
Step 6: Secure the warps with double half hitch knots. You can use this method with either your warp thread or the same yarn you are weaving your rainbow with (if using roving for weaving your rainbow, use your warp thread). Starting at the bottom left of the loom on the inside arch, work your way all the way along to the end. Then using the same technique, start at the bottom right of the outside arch, work your way all the way along to the end.
